To send an email message from an account other than your default account, under Inbox , select the account in the list. You can now send email from your non-default email account. When you're finished, under Inbox , click your default account. When you forward or reply to a message, Outlook uses the account that the original message was sent to. To change this preference, on the Outlook menu, click Preferences , and then under Email , click Composing.
Under Format and account , clear the Reply and forward using the default e-mail account check box. Your default mail reader is what's used when you're browsing a web page and share it via email with a friend or colleague, or mail it to yourself for further reading. The Mac default is to use the Mail app, but you can change the default to Outlook.
On the General tab, in Default email reader , select Microsoft Outlook.

Hello, I followed above instructions but I get this email system administrator message after I change reply to email. The only modification to your instructions is that in Outlook you do not have the option to close the account, you can only remove it and is will delete the email account you have just created.

When you go back to your folders you will see the account has disappeared, but you can still send from that email address. Thanks, this works. This seems like a huge step in the wrong direction. Surely there must be a proper answer.
Set up Office 365 POP email account on Outlook Mac
I agree it is not ideal, but as far as I am aware, it is the only way. If you have a better way of doing it, please share! Then it should be fine. Mike: Just go the account settings and set your POP account you use for sending as your default account. Then this reply address will be preselected.
Thank you! Your method worked perfectly. This method is useful, the annoyance I have with it is that sent items are put into the PST file of the dummy account by default.

It sounds to me like you are using Outlook Web Access, not the Outlook desktop client — am I correct? However if you also have Outlook then you should be able to follow these instructions quite accurately. Hmm, might have just stumbled across the issue after closing and reopening Outlook.

First make sure the alias email is listed under the user in the admin center, users, active users. Is it listed for that user, if no, add it, if yes, next.
Hitting Tab actually makes the window refresh and now you have more fields for entering data. Select your new "fake" account from the list on the left, if it isn't already selected. Click More options at the bottom of the window. Click OK. Close the Preferences window. Sending mail using the "fake" account for your mailing list Compose a new message in Outlook the way you normally would.
Since you have multiple accounts set up for sending now, there will actually be a drop-down menu below the From line, showing your two accounts. Select the "For Sending Only" account identifier from the drop-down menu That's it!
