No banners, photos or mentions to the Big Mac. So, the Big Mac estimated price used by The Economist was taking into account the regulated hamburger and the parallel price of the dollar, meaning a much more cheaper price in American currency. Check again your figures about Argentina.

This is completely wrong. The currency rate is wrong and the price is wrong also. It is much more expensive. There is always one point I am missing in the discussion: McDonalds will always try to maximize revenues and find the point where: This might be just an empirical value from the company, but it tells how to get most from consumers. The useful thing about the Big Mac Index is, that it tells you even in the more remote areas what an average income can buy.

If you want to know how much the higher income in Norway is offset by higher living costs, just calculate how many Big Macs you can buy from an income there compared to your home country. I can't agree more with you. The most overvalued currency is the Icelandic krona: The index is supposed to give a guide to the direction in which currencies should, in theory, head in the long run.

It is only a rough guide, because its price reflects non-tradable elements—such as rent and labour.
